HELPING TEACHERS USE TECHNOLOGY
MY PHILOSOPHY & VISION
I believe there are multiple ways that we learn, and it can change depending on our age, our existing knowledge, and the concept to be learned. I have been told that if you watch coaches when they coach, they are some of the best teachers because they make sure the students have a chance to “see it, hear it, and do it” for each skill they need. I adopted that philosophy as a teacher, and it worked well with adolescents. I have also learned that as an adult student I also need those three components. I learn best when I can read about something, hear someone else explain it in layman’s terms and give examples, and then have a chance to practice the skill or build something myself. My goal as an educational technologist is to help teachers to learn to use technology using a see it, hear it, do it philosophy, enabling them to feel comfortable integrating it into their instruction in a way that helps them to create more relevant and engaging learning opportunities for students.
